It is difficult to get a satisfactoryresult for the correction of malunited fracture of zygoma. Triple osteotomy and reposition of malunited zygoma is accepted as the better surgical method than camouflage surgery by means of onlays, if the orbital floor is to be reconstructed. The surgical approach can be divided into bicoronal, periorbital, intraoral and old scar. In 7 patients with malunited fracture of zygoma, the authors used a limited approach through extension of periorbital incision and intraoral incision instead of wide exposure including bicoronal incision. And we performed triple wteotomy and advancement of zygoma complex. The patients were followed for 4.5 months with acceptable result, and this approach was an effective method for the relatively simple tripod typemalunited fracture of zygoma. The authors obtained following conclusions: 1. Preoperative evaluation through thorough measurement of X-rays, investigation of photographs and detail communication with the patients was an important process.
The AIDS is a serious health problem worldwide today and also in Korea. Increasing knowledge and modification of behavior by health education is an important goal of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) prevention strategies. And school health education is an important part of health education. This study was conducted to evaluate the knowledge and attitude about AIDS in teachers and professors in Taegu City and to provide the basic data for school health education. A self-administered questionnaire was given to 1,124 teachers and professors from April to June 1992. Indeed, the majority of the teachers and professors have a lot of knowledges about AIDS, but many of them also have misconceptions. The level of knowledge about AIDS was positively associated with attitude toward infected students. The sources of knowledge about AIDS were mainly TV, newspapers and magazines, but a few of the subjects obtained their knowledge from health education programs. This study suggest., that the reinforcement of health education for the teachers, professors and students be needed to provide the accurate knowledge on AIDS and adequate knowledge sources and materials for school health education on AIDS should be developed.
Inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate (InsP3) is a second messenger for obilizing intracellular Ca2+. It can be dephosphorylated by soluble and particulate forms on InsP3 5-phosphatase, or phosphorylated to produce inositol 1,3,4,5-tetrakisphosphate (InsP3) by InsP3 3-kinase. These enzymes represent possible targets for the regulation of the InsP3/AnsP4 signal. InsP3 3-kinase which catalyses the ATP-dependent phosphorylation of InsP3 was purified from bovine brain tissue. All operation were carried out at 41°C. Fresh tissue was homogenized and centrifuged. The supernatant was pooled. Proteins were precipitated from 10% polyethylene glycol, and suspended solution was applied to DEAE cellulose column for chromatography. As the result of above procedure, two isozymes of InsP3 3-kinase, I and U were obtained. Each isozyme was applied to Matriz green gel, Calmodulin-Affigel 15 column and subsequent phenyl-TSK HPLC column. Specific activites (SA) and fold of puriety were observed at each purification step of chromatography. At DEAE cellulose chromatography, SA were I, 0.6 and II, 4.8 nM/min/mg, and folds were I, 17.2 and II, 16.6. At Matrix green gel chromatography, SA were I, 18 and II, 11 nM/min/mg, folds were I, 62.1 and II, 38.0. At calmodulin-Affigel 15 column chromatography, SA were I, 19 and II, 13 nM/min/mg, folds were I, 65.5 and II, 44.8. Finally InsP3 kinase I and II were purified 3,103-fold and 2,310-fold, and SA were I, 900 and II, 670 nM/min/mg, respectively. SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis elucidated 3 distinct fractions of Mr of 145,000, 85,000 and 69,500 from isozyme I, and 2 distinct fractions of Mr of 79,000 and 57,000 from isozyme II.

Statistical significance of association between frequency of periodic health examination and other variables
The authors reviewed 95 cases (46 men and 49 women) of the orbital tumors diagnosed histopathologically at the Department of Ophtalmology, Yeungnam University Hospital from March 1984 through August 1994. Seventy-five cases of benign tumors were found evenly in all decades, but twenty cases of malignant tumors were noticed more frequently in 1st, 6th, and 7th decades. The frequency of benign orbital tumors was in this order; dermolipoma (21%, 20 cases), dermoid cyst (11.6%, 11 cases), mucocele (8.4%, 8 cases), lipoma (7.4%, 7 cases) and pleomorphic adenoma (5.3%, 5 cases). Of malignant orbital tumors, the frequency was in this order; retinoblastoma (3 cases), malignant melanoma (2 cases), sebaceous carcinoma (2 cases), and maxillary sinus carcinoma (2 cases). Malignant orbital tumors of 8 expired patients were revealed as secondary or metastatic tumors.
The authors experienced 52 patients with myasthenia gravis who were diagnosed at the Department of Neurology, Yeungnam University Hospital from August 1985 to January 1996. The following results were obtained through diagnostic evaluation and treatment. 1. The ratio of male to female was 1:1.7 and the most prevalent age group was second decade. 2. The most common initial presentation symptom was ocular(71.2%) and the peak incidence group was stage I (69.3%) according to the modified Osserman's classification. 3. In 16 patients(30.8%), it took more than a year to diagnose due to symptoms which were relapsed and remitting. 4. Of 52 patients, 2 cases were associated with thyroid disease(3.8%) and 2 with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus(3.8%). 5. All of those who received anticholinesterase and corticosteroid therapy were improved with the exception of 5 cases which were improved after thymectomy and/or plasmapheresis.
Recently there has been attempts to develop hospital information system including order communicating system, patient tracing system, tumor registry system, office automation system and picture archiving and communication system(PACS). The authors devloped a practical system that was operated via order communication system of Yeungnam University Hospital. The system provided us the 'speed, accuracy, reliability, retention, economy and wide applicability through practical test. So we believed that this system would be one of standard computerized programs in radiation oncology practice and providing widely usable data for clinical statistics, medical record, tumor registry system and clinical researches.
The ESR is one of the oldest laboratory test still in use. Although it lacks specificity in diagnosis, it can be effective for monitoring disease activity and following-up. The Westergren method is used for reference method, however coefficient of variation has been described 0.8% to 22.9% according to the literature. Since the ESR was invented in 1921, measurement technique has developed and automated measurement is introduced. We analyzed one hundred forty-three patient samples using SEDIsystem' automated ESR measuring system and compared with modified Westergren and Wintrobe methods. Comparison between SEDIsystem' and modified Westergren for ESR measurement yields the following regression equation; y = 0.863x - 1.69 (r=0.830), SEDIsystem'M and Wintrobe y'= 1.14x - 14.7 (r=0.789), rcspectively. We repeated measurement to evaluate reliability, results are not significant in statistically. In conclusion, SEDIsysten' automated ESR measurement correlated with modified Westergren and Wintro" ; methods, reveal reliable results after 4 hours and can report rapidly for large samples. Thus, these results indicate that SEDIsystenT"' automated ESR measurement may be useful tool for clinical practice.

The biocompatibility of the titanium has been estabilished through various experimental studies such as cell culture toxicity test, pyrogen test, mutagen test and others. In order to confirm biocompatibility after fabrication of titanium and to clarify the difference between the bone reaction after insertion of the lathed titanium rods and the bone reaction after insertion of the finished and polished rods, both rods were implanted into the proximal femur of a rabbit. Histologic reactions in the bone were observed according to the ASTM standards at the intervals of 6 weeks, 12 weeks and 26 weeks after implantation. The result were as follows In 6 weeks after implantation of lathed titanium rods, inflammatory reactions, such as minimal degree infiltration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and lymphocytes were observed in all cases. This was thought to be caused by surgical trauma. However, inflammatory cell infiltration was not seen after implantation of polished and finished rods in all cases. The cellular infiltration and the histologic reaction of the bone after implantation of lathed group were significantly more pronounced than those after implantation of the finished group. In 12 weekt after implantation of lathed rods, two of four cases revealed a minimal degree of cellular infiliration and histologic reaction seemed to be more pronounced in the lathed group, but they were not significant statistically.
Recently many studies have shown the usefulness of computed tomogram in diagnosing abdominal mass when clinical and conventional radiologic examinations fail to reveal the nature of abdominal mass or the cause of abdominal distension. To evaluate the usefulness of CT in diagnosing neuroblastoma, we retrospectively analyzed computed tomographic findings of 16 neuroblastoma patients, who pathologically proved in Yeungnam University Hospital from 1986 to 1995. The age range of the patients studied were from 8months to 18years. The most frequent sith of origin was adrenal gland and the next was retroperitioneum. The presenting symptoms were palpable mass, abdominal distension, and abdominal pain.- The viewpoints of this analysis were tumoral calcifications, midline cross, shape, margin, internal structure, contrast enhancement patterns, major vessel involvement, and lymph node involvement. ':haracteristic CT findings were 'as follows: Fine dense curvillinear calcification within the tumor(56%), midline cross(50%), lobulation(75%), well-circumscribed margin(56%), cystic degeneration(56%), heterogeneous contrast enhancement(690/o), encasement of major vessels such as aorta, IVC and celiac trunk(50%), and paraaortic lymphadenopathy(87%). We conclude that these CT findings were very common and could be helpful in diagnosting and differentiation neuroblastoma in infant and children.
The antiphospholipid antibodies are characterized by prolonged phospholipid-dependent coagulation test (known as APTT or Russel viper venom), thrombosis, thrombocytopenia, and fetal loss. The association of antiphospholipid antibodies with one or more of these characteristic clinical features has been termed the i antiphospholipid syndrome. We have experienced a case of successful live birth after treated a woman with heparin and aspirin who has experienced spontaneous abortion four times with antiphospholipid antibodies and present it with the review of literature.
Majority of .hepatocellular carcinoma is evolved from a well differentiated cancerous condition such as hypetptastic lesions eg; adenomatous hyperplasia in cirrhotic liver or de no vo carcinogenesis and prolifenation along with dedifferentiation. Adenomatous hyperplasia is may be seen in severe acute hepatic injury, like svhmassive hepatic necrosis, or in chronic liver diseases, particularly liver cirrhosis and it has recently attracted much interest from both clinicians and pathologists because it is regarded as a precursor lesion of hepatocObdar carcinoma. Hepatic. denomatous hyperplasia resembling focal nodular hyperplasia might have developed from localized vascular changes associated with chronic liver disease, pre-existing arterial malformation and early stage of angiogenesis in hepatocarcinogenesis. .fie present a patient who developed hepatocellular carcinoma after hepatic artery ligation.
We report a case of subungual solitary glomus tumor in a 28-year-old female, who has suffered from pain and tenderness of the left 4th finger tip for about 5 years. Simple surgical excision was performed for removal of the tumor mass and for the relief of the subjective symptoms. No recurrence has been observed for 5 months following excision of the tumor.
